LOVE & ROMANTICISM
Does love poetry and romantic art make your heart flutter? Then let Erato, the ancient Muse of Lyric poetry, guide you on an itinerary that traces the work of romantics through time.
TARAS' TIPS:
“Read the works of Sappho and Catullus in the locations that inspired them.”
Your romantic, literary journey takes you first to Verona, birthplace of the Roman poet Catullus, and then on to Rome, where he continued his education and writing career and fell in love with 'Lesbia', both the protagonist and antagonist of his passionate poems. Discover the connections she shares with the real-life figure of Clodia, who features prominently in one of Rome's most infamous murder trials.

SAMPLE ITINERARY INSPIRED BY ERATO
Follow in the footsteps of one of the earliest poets in Greek and world literature. Sappho exhibits an extraordinary passion in the fragments of her poetry that survive, which date back to the 7th century BCE. Read her works in the locations that inspired her. Also, learn about Terpander, of Antissa in Lesbos, was a Greek poet and citharede who lived in the first half of the 7th century BC. He was the father of Greek music and through it, of lyric poetry. Terpander is perhaps the earliest historically certain figure in the music of Ancient Greece
